How We Treat

True North Equine approaches veterinary medicine with functionality and whole horse health at its center. We strive to find and address the root causes of equine health issues rather than treating only the symptoms. Dr. Hancock is a doctor of veterinary medicine and a certified osteopath who has stayed at the top of her field due to her continuous efforts to expand her expertise through continued education including studying acupuncture, cranial sacral techniques, and anatomy.

In addition to her own broad expanse of knowledge and experience, Dr. Hancock integrates knowledge from a variety of top equine practitioners including True North’s own, Callie Eisenhart, Certified Osteopath and Saddle Fitter. To learn more about our trusted friends and collaborators check out our Friends of True North page.

By collaborating with many horse health practitioners and experts , we are often able to create long lasting change.

Our Process

1

Initial Contact

We encourage new clients to call our office so that we can gather some general information and set up an appointment. We will answer any questions you may have and understand your horse's needs and can tailor our approach to provide the best possible care.

2

Required Forms

Before scheduling your appointment, we'll email the required client intake form. For additional details, an optional Docusign form is available to provide deeper insight into your horse's past treatments, allowing us to create a more comprehensive care plan.

3

Appointment Prep

Please inform us if your horse is on any pain medications or supplements. For saddle fitting appointments, bring all your tack and be prepared to ride. Please bring your horse brushed and cleaned.

4

Visit Overview

Appointments typically last 1-2 hours in a quiet stall or corner to allow the horse to move calmly. Dr. Hancock performs a physical exam, discusses a treatment plan, and may use sedation or an internal pelvic exam for long-term changes. Callie’s osteopathy sessions also occur in a quiet space, where she may incorporate massage techniques as needed.

5

Post-Appointment Care

Plan for your horse to rest for 2 days after osteopathy, followed by 1-2 days of light work. Be sure to schedule appointments at least 2 weeks before any competitions.
